Introduction and Table of Contents
This PDF provides an introduction to the AGC Database and a broad table of contents.  This document should prove useful in narrowing information queries and identifying which chapters of the AGC Database to download.

Chapter 1 – Overview
This chapter provides major statistics at a glance.  It is a single page showing data on gambling turnover, expenditure, taxation and business numbers in Australia. 

Chapter 2 – Australia’s Gambling Environment
This chapter defines gambling and looks at the various forms of gambling offered in Australia. The number of operators of each gambling form are listed and an estimate of the number of gambling businesses in Australia is provided.

Chapter 3 – New Zealand’s Gambling Environment
This chapter provides a brief overview of the types of gambling available in New Zealand and also outlines the number of businesses providing each gambling form.

Chapter 4 – Australia’s Gambling Expenditure
This chapter examines aggregate and per capita gambling expenditure in Australia and provides ten year trend data for the various types of gambling offered.  The chapter goes on to provide information on gambling and household income and offers some information on future possible gambling expenditure trends.

Chapter 5 – New Zealand’s Gambling Expenditure
Chapter 5 lists aggregate and per capita gambling expenditure in New Zealand and provides ten year trend data for the various types of gambling offered.  The chapter closes with information on gambling and household income.

Chapter 6 – Gambling Taxation
Chapter 6 examines effective, aggregate and per capita gambling taxation in Australia and goes on to outline taxation rates and payments made by the various operators.  Non-gambling taxation contributions of the Australian gambling industry and the recommendations of the Henry Tax Review are also discussed.  New Zealand gambling taxation is also covered in this chapter.

Chapter 7 – Gambling Participation
This chapter looks at gambling participation in each Australian jurisdiction, the participation in various forms of gambling, motivations for gambling and also contains information on gambling participation in New Zealand.

Chapter 8 – Problem Gambling
Chapter 8 examines problem gambling.  The chapter explains the various screening tools used to assess problem gambling and lists results of problem gambling prevalence studies in Australia and internationally.  The chapter further goes on to address problem gambling demographics and behaviours and closes with information on counselling and treatment options.

Chapter 9 – Responsible Gambling
This chapter defines responsible gambling and outlines the various responsible gambling policies and codes of conduct operating in Australia.  The chapter also outlines major legislative harm minimisation polices in operation at EGM venues around Australia and closes by looking at collaborative bodies which assist with responsible gambling.

Chapter 10 – Regulatory and Policy Environment
Chapter 10 outlines the current legislative instruments and codes of practice in each Australian jurisdiction, it then summarises contact details for state and territory regulatory bodies and closes with the key aspects of the emerging national policy on problem gambling.

Chapter 11 – Gambling Research
Chapter 11 opens with an overview of the gambling research undertaken nationally and in each Australian jurisdiction.  The chapter also provides a commentary on the major Australasian gambling research forums.

Chapter 12 – Economic and Social Impacts
This chapter looks at the contribution to GDP, ownership, capital expenditure, employment and community contributions from and generated by the gambling industry.  The chapter further examines the tourism impacts and the facilities and entertainment options that Australia’s gambling industries provide.  The chapter also outlines a public health model of assessing the costs of gambling and closes by examining Productivity Commission estimates of the social costs and benefits of gambling.

Chapter 13 – Gambling Around the World
Chapter 13 discusses the availability of gambling around the world and provides snapshots of the gambling forms offered internationally.  The chapter then delves into more detail providing country profiles which contain information (where available) on North American, European, Asian and African nations.

Chapter 14 – History of Gambling in Australia
This chapter outlines a brief history of gambling in Australia and provides a timeline of the development of gambling.

Chapter 15 – History of Gambling in New Zealand
Chapter 15 provides a brief history and timeline of the development of gambling in New Zealand.
