The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs' inquiry in online gambling and its impacts on those experiencing harm has announced it will hear from the Alliance for Gambling Reform and people with lived experience of gambling harm.

Date announced for betting limits on electronic gaming machines (WA)

A $10 betting limit will apply to Electronic Gaming Machines on the main floor at Crown Casino from 1 July 2023. Tracking of player gambling and time limits is also on the cards and further gambling harm minimisation strategies to be rolled out by December 2025.

Loot Boxes Bill introduced to Parliament

The Classification (Publications, Films and Computer Games) Amendment (Loot Boxes) Bill 2022 introduces mandatory classifications for video games with gambling type features. It requires classification of any game with loot boxes as R18+ or RC. It also requires clear labelling.

Government takes action to reduce gambling harm from electronic gaming machines (NZ)

NZ's Internal Affairs Minister Jan Tinetti has announced forthcoming changes to regulations to strengthen harm minimisation requirements in venues which have gaming machines.

It is expected that the new harm minimisation regulations for gaming machines will be in place in the first half of 2023.

Termination of the sale process for the WA TAB in interests of State

The WA State Government has decided to terminate the process for the sale of the WA TAB. The State Government will retain ownership of the WA TAB and it will continue to be operated by Racing and Wagering Western Australia.

Gotterson Review: A statement from the Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman (QLD)

Queensland's Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman has announced show cause notices have been issued to the licensees of The Star Gold Coast and Treasury Brisbane.

This follows the determination of the Gotterson Review regarding the conduct of operations at the casinos.
