Fourth Social and Economic Impact Study of Gambling in Tasmania
The Tasmanian Gaming Control Act 1993 requires that an independent review of the social and economic impact of gambling in Tasmania is conducted every three years.
Volumes One and Two of the Fourth Impact Study were released on 16 January 2018.
Undertaken by a consortium comprised of ACIL Allen Consulting, Deakin University, Central Queensland and the Social Research Centre these latest volumes cover:
- Industry Trends and Impacts; and
- The 2017 Tasmanian Prevalence Survey
Young People and Gambling 2017: 11-16 year olds in Great Britain
New research from the UK Gambling Commission shows that new technology is providing children with opportunities to experience gambling behaviours through products, such as free-to-play casino games, social media or within some app-based games, which do not have the same protections or responsible gambling messages as regulated gambling products.
The data raises questions about the long term impact for children that are experiencing gambling without understanding the consequences.

Betting Restrictions and Online Wagering in Australia
This study, produced by the Australian Gambling Research Centre, Australian Institute of Family Studies, sought to identify what is currently known about restrictions placed on Australian gamblers within the licensed online wagering environment and the impact of these on consumers' behaviour.
The study was commissioned by the Department of Social Services (DSS) as part of the government's response to the O'Farrell Review into Illegal Offshore Wagering recommendation that further research be undertaken on the impact of betting restrictions.
Industry Statistics: April 2014 to March 2017 (UK)
The Gambling Commission (UK) publishes statistics twice a year (in May and November) on each industry sector it regulates, including online gambling services, the national lottery, casinos and betting.
The statistics include data on gaming machine numbers and their Gross Gambling Yield (GGY), employee numbers and social responsibility activities.
