Self Exclusion & Exclusion Programs

Individuals can undertake to become banned from gambling at particular venues or on websites, through a process known as Self-Exclusion. 

Self-Exclusion is a service offered throughout Australia and New Zealand.  However contact details and requirements of the various self-exclusion (and exclusion) programs available for differing gambling forms may vary.

In a number of jurisidictions self-exclusion is available from multiple venues and involuntary exclusion (venue initiated exclusion) or exclusion of others (Third Party exclusion) by concerned family members or others is also available.

Australian Capital Territory
Program Name Summary
Australian Capital Territory Self-Exclusion

Self-Exclusion is available from club, hotel, casino, bookmaker or ACTTAB outlet venues in the ACT.  Licensee and involuntary exclusion is also available.

New South Wales
Program Name Summary
GameCare and ClubSAFE Multi-Venue Self-Exclusion (MVSE)

Hotel and Club patrons in NSW can access help and support to self-exclude from gambling via the GameCare and ClubSAFE Multi-Venue Self-exclusion Program.

You can take any one of the following steps to become a self-excluded person:

  • Contact GameCare Multi Venue Self Exclusion on 1800 99 77 66
  • Contact the Australian Hotels Association NSW directly on (02) 9281 6922
  • Call the Gambling Helpline on 1800 858 858 for referral to the GameCare or ClubSAFE Multi Venue Self-Exclusion program.
  • Speaking with a Gambling Counsellor who may contact the AHA NSW or ClubSAFE on your behalf.
  • Approach the Hotel Licensee, Club Management or any staff member of a hotel or club for information about the MVSE program operated by the AHA NSW and Clubs NSW
Betcare (TAB)

Tabcorp operates the Betcare program in all Victorian and New South Wales TAB agencies.  

As a member of BetCare, you can exclude yourself from up to 15 TAB Agencies in either Victoria or New South Wales as well as 15 participating Hotels and Clubs. You can also opt to have your TAB betting account (telephone and internet) suspended.

Self-exclusion is available from all Northern Territory gambling providers - including hotels, clubs and online providers (casinos have specific provisions in place).

Queensland
Program Name Summary
Queensland Exclusion Program

In Queensland all gambling providers are required to offer self-exclusion.

Queensland gaming venues can also initiate exclusion for patrons from gambling activities and may accept third party requests for venue initiated exclusion of the gambler.

Adelaide Casino Host Responsibility Program

Adelaide Casino through an integrated Host Responsibility program  has exclusion options available to allow a person to take a break whilst they review circumstances.  Options can be discussed with a Host Responsibility Coordinator at any time.

In South Australia family members and concerned others can also initiate a barring (involuntary barring) or seek a Family Protection Order.

South Australian Barring (Exclusion) Program - Hotels, Clubs, Casino, SA Lotteries and Wagering (Betting)
In South Australia exclusion (known as barring) from any form of gambling is available.  You can ask a gambling provider (venue) or Consumer and Business Services (CBS) to bar you from entering an area where gambling takes place. This can include hotels and clubs with gaming machines, and the Adelaide Casino.

You can also ask to be barred from gambling activities such as betting on racing and sport and commercial lotteries.

Barring from multiple venues is available through CBS.

In Tasmania the Gambling Exclusion Scheme (TGES) provides for self-exclusion from gambling, exclusion of the gambler by venue operators and exclusion of the gambler by third parties.

Victorian Hotel and Clubs Self-Exclusion Program

Self-exclusion from Victorian hotel and club gaming facilities is managed jointly by the Australian Hotels Association (Vic) and Community Clubs Victoria (CCV).  

Both program providers can assist with queries regarding self-exclusion from hotels or clubs in Victoria (including self-exclusion from multiple hotel/club gaming venues).
